Prosperity Prayer Week 8: Understand Your Life’s Purpose and Find Meaningful Work

August 21, 2011

This is the final installment of your 8-week exploration and internalization of Lynn Robinson’s Prosperity Prayer. You have been focusing on the prayer for 7 weeks now, taking time each week to visualize a new stanza, and by taking this time strengthening the power of the prayer and your own success. This week you put the final piece in place, as you continue your journey through a life of prosperity, with divine love and assistance there with you all the time.

Dear God —

I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love.

I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties and fears about money, and replace them with faith.

I know and trust that my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life.

I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide.

I release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state.

I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life.

I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking help where needed.

And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world.

Thank you, God.

Amen

Now you get to the heart of the matter, the place from which prosperity flows, and that is acting on your own purpose in life. This may sound like a cliché, but it is most definitely not one. Prosperity, true prosperity, which means having all the money and joy and blessings you could ever want, comes from you, from your ideas, from your passion, from your purpose.

“…I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life…”

Like all the other steps in the Prayer, you need not worry about this one, about whether you have it right or not. Because you have surrendered your anxieties and worry, and you have asked a divine, unconditionally loving being to help you.

“…and to act on that purpose with courage and strength.”

Again, fear not! You are asking for help to take the action that is necessary, and to do so with courage and strength. You are not alone. Once again, note that the Prayer is in the present tense. This means that you continually ask for this help, and you understand that you will always take action with courage and strength.

I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love.

Let’s look at this phrase two different ways. The first is the simple statement “I know that prosperity will come by doing work I love.” You create prosperity by creating value. You create value through your love. Imagine that you go to the bakery for a loaf of bread. When you get there, you discover two bakeries, side-by-side. You go into the first bakery, and you find a person behind the counter. This person is not unfriendly, but neither are they particularly welcoming. They are clearly just there doing a job. They have bread for sale, and they point to the case with it.

You see the bread, but you hesitate for a moment and decide that you will just go next door and see what the situation is over there. You walk in, and you see a truly happy person who greets you warmly. You say that you are looking for some bread. This person tells you that yes, I have just taken some from my oven, would you like to taste a slice with butter?

Then you are handed a slice of warm bread and given a huge slab of butter and a knife to spread it with. The butter melts gently into the bread, and as you bite into it, you think that this may perhaps be the most delicious thing you have ever tasted. You look up to see your host smiling at you. He is so happy to see you enjoying the fruits of his labor of love. For in that simple slice of bread, you have been given love. You order a loaf for yourself, then you decide that your neighbor would enjoy this bread, so you order another, and then you remember that you have been invited to dinner with a friend tonight, so you get a third loaf for her. You want everyone to experience this same miracle.

When you work from a place of real love, you are putting love back out into the Universe. This is Prosperity in its truest sense.

Now let’s look at the next part of this phrase:

I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love.

Why add “in part” to a beautiful statement? Because it is true that doing work you love, by itself, is not necessarily going to bring you prosperity. There are other parts to the equation. If you have a negative relationship with money, you can probably work your entire life at something you love, and have no prosperity because you have no relationship with Money that works.

It is also the case that Prosperity can come from unexpected places, not necessarily related to your work at all. But this is a key piece over which you can make a true difference in your own life.

Finally, you ask that your life be of service:

Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world.

Here you are making a final polite request to the Universe, to help you use your skills and knowledge to be of service. What could be better than doing that?

You have now come full circle in the Prayer. I hope that you enjoyed it, and that you continue to use the Prayer to get assistance. Because the assistance is there for you. Knock and the door shall be opened – truly and fully.

May your day be filled with blessings as you and Money discover each other anew.
